The proposed 400 kV overhead line across Loch Brora and Carroll Rock represents an unacceptable assault on one of Sutherland’s most iconic landscapes. These towering steel structures — some reaching 65 metres high — would scar a place of natural beauty that defines our region’s identity and heritage.
SSEN Transmission’s consultation process has failed the community. Meetings have been treated as tick‑box exercises rather than genuine opportunities for dialogue. Residents have not been given full, transparent facts about alternative routes, environmental impacts, or the irreversible damage this industrial intrusion would cause.
We demand that SSEN and the relevant authorities halt this proposal immediately and commit to a proper, evidence‑based review that respects the landscape, wildlife, and people who live here. Loch Brora and Carroll Rock are not expendable — they are part of Scotland’s living heritage, and their preservation is a moral and civic duty. The highlands have already been scarred both on land and sea by numerous wind farm developments. This can’t be a playground for remote shareholders. A balance must be maintained to respect our local population and wild heritage. ---
