Net Zero is Not Zero

The landscape despoilation, the detrimental environmental impacts, the damage and destruction of natural habitats and biodiversity, with absurdly expensive and inefficient long-distance pylon routes, amount to hugely significant carbon emissions and carbon footprint from steel, copper, lithium, cobalt, and raw materials mined and produced using fossil fuels elsewhere in the world, transported huge distances, using fossil fuels, often displacing peatland soils and ecology, are all doing nothing to help Net Zero.

That is the complete travesty. Energy and power should be produced close to where it is most needed, obviating the need for extensive expensive environmentally damaging pylon-lines. Alternative renewable energy can and should be generated by using sewage digester plants to generate heat, to incinerate to generate heat and electricity and not pollute rivers and seas (and release climate warming gases anyway); or from geothermal ground source heat from disused coal mines, already excavated, where heat can be available close to urban centres where the energy is needed.

Energy efficient homes and buildings with solar panels or photo-voltaic roofs, especially in the sunnier south of England would be a lot more cost effective. Even modern modular nuclear power would be more reliable and cheaper in the long-term.

The road to Net Zero is Not Zero.
